The Capuchin Crypt audio guide comes with every museum ticket, and a self-guided visit takes about 60 minutes. Every option sits side by side in the Capuchin Crypt tours catalogue.

Is the Audio Guide Included in Capuchin Crypt Tickets?

Yes, the museum includes the audio guide in every ticket price and does not sell it separately.

You never need to buy the audio guide on its own. One ticket covers the museum and the crypt, and the audio guide comes with it.

Official Ticket Prices

The museum's own ticket page lists a full ticket at $11.18 (€10), a reduced ticket at $7.27 (€6.50) and a group ticket for 10 or more people at $8.38 (€7.50). Each one includes the audio guide. Buying online adds $1.68 (€1.50) per ticket.

You can also pay at the desk on the day, in cash or by card.

What the Ticket Covers

The ticket is single entry and covers both the museum and the crypt. You cannot visit the crypt alone. Tickets are not refunded, resold or moved to another date.

The museum refuses Roma Pass and similar city cards, so plan to pay for this visit separately.

How Does the Capuchin Crypt Audio Guide Visit Work?

You walk the museum rooms and then the crypt corridor at your own pace while the audio guide explains each room.

There is no group to follow on the basic ticket. You start in the museum, which tells the story of the Capuchin friars, and finish in the crypt below.

The Route

The museum sits at Via Vittorio Veneto 27, a short walk from Piazza Barberini. The crypt is a corridor about 30 metres long with six rooms, including the Crypt of the Skulls and the Crypt of the Three Skeletons. It holds the remains of about 3,700 people, mostly Capuchin friars, arranged by the friars in the 18th and 19th centuries.

A full visit takes about 60 minutes. Drawing is allowed in the crypt as long as you do not block other visitors.

The Concert Visit Is Different

The Capuchins Crypt Tour and Concert meets at a different door: the Capuchins Convent entrance at Via Veneto 21, in front of the bus stop. Admission runs from 16:15 to 16:40, and nobody is let in after 16:45. You tour the museum and crypt with an audio guide in one of 13 languages, then hear Gregorian chant and sacred polyphonic music in the Hall of the Capuchin Convent.

Arrive half an hour early.

What Are the Capuchin Crypt Opening Hours?

The museum and crypt open every day from 09:30 to 13:30 and from 14:30 to 18:30, with last entry at 12:30 and 17:30.

The midday break catches people out. If you arrive at 13:00 you wait until 14:30.

Hours and Closures

The museum closes on Easter Sunday, 25 December and 1 January. If you arrive after closing time, you cannot enter even with a valid ticket. The basic entry ticket works at any time during opening hours.

The concert visit has its own fixed afternoon admission window.

What Are the Rules Inside the Capuchin Crypt?

Cover your shoulders and knees, put large bags in the free lockers, and keep photos for private use only.

The crypt sits under a church, so the dress code is enforced at the door. The other rules are simple.

The Rules in Short

Shoulders and legs must be covered to the knee. Large bags and suitcases go in free lockers, and only a bottle of water is allowed inside, with no food or drink. Photos and video are allowed for private, non-profit use.

Publishing them needs permission from the Fondo Edifici di Culto. Crypt entry is recommended for minors only with an adult.

Who Is the Audio Guide Visit Right For?

It suits independent visitors and families who want their own pace, and it is harder for anyone who cannot manage steps.

The self-guided format lets you move quickly past rooms that unsettle younger children, or linger where you like.

Families

Children up to 6 enter free, and children from 7 to 17 pay the reduced price. Strollers are admitted to the museum. The crypt shows human bones in open display, so think about how young children will take it.

Access

The museum is on the first floor, reached by lift, and its rooms are step-free. The crypt has three low steps and no ramp. A wheelchair user can visit with a companion, but motorised wheelchairs are not allowed.

Visitors with disabilities and one companion enter free.

What Costs Extra on Top of the Audio Guide Ticket?

Only a live guide booked through the museum, or the online booking fee, costs extra at the official desk.

The basic visit has few extras. Most people pay only the ticket.

The Museum's Own Guided Visit

The museum supplies a guide for groups of up to 10 people. You book by email at least one week ahead. It costs $100.61 (€90) by bank transfer or $106.20 (€95) by PayPal, plus the entry tickets, and radio headsets are compulsory.

For a single traveller, the $21 ticket with a live English guide is the cheaper way to get a guide.
